The Bound Field Extension Library is a small ASP.Net 2.0 controls derived from BoundField, which are designed to promote consistent appearance and behavior in ASP.Net applications using the GridView, DetailsView and FormView controls. It supplies controls that automatically generate the correct formatting of the values based on the CurrentCulture. In edit mode, it injects validators for required fields, pattern and length validators for text fields, data-type and range (minimum/maximum) for numeric (int, double, decimal, currency) and Date/DateTime/Time fields. By moving all of this common stuff into the controls, the markup is sufficient to completely define the behavior of a field. In addition, a bunch of Attributes are included that can be used to define the standardized behavior for any DataObjectType (as used by ObjectDataSource). Once defined, these attributes can be discovered at runtime by the included classes derived from GridView, DetailsView and FormView to allow AutoGenerated fields that exhibit the desired behavior. In addition, the attributes can by used, server-side to automate the validation checks against the business objects.
